The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the upcoming Hunger Games movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Significant Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
