A individual charged with stalking Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard call records and evidence retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and continues to be unresolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I feel what I believe."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Wouldn't that be important for you?"

"I do not need money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.

The tribunal was advised that by means of emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, advised the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will persist and I will prove my position."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in that area in last December.

Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the time leading up to the trip to Rothley, that area, in last December.

The court heard correspondence between the two accused, in that autumn, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their home, the defendant sent a message which stated: "We are sat outside the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to detectives. I wanted to do this with someone else I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."

The proceedings ongoing.
