A Mountain of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pursuits much better than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to not snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements emerged over the festive period, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
